Thank you, Mary Oliver.

and i say to my fingers, type me a pretty song.

and i say to my heart: rave on.

-Mary Oliver

I used to be a poet once.

I used to fashion my words on paper,

their letters making shapes across the pages.

Fourteen and Fifteen created poetry like a leaking faucet

so by Sixteen I was parched

and dry

and I thought my poet days were over.

I’ve forgotten how easy it is to fall in love again.

Poetry is less about writing

and more about feeling.

Everything.

Poetry is raw with emotion.

Poetry is angry and sad and jubilant and glorious

and everything in between.

And I know

If I’m not willing

to write,

I’m not willing

to feel.
